CYBER SECURITY ISN'T JUST ABOUT PREVENTION... IT'S ABOUT PREPARATION.

Most CISOs invest heavily in the latest cyber security technologies to reduce risk and protect their organisations. But one area that's often overlooked is what happens when an incident actually occurs.

The question is no longer if your organisation will experience a cyber event—it's WHEN.

Having the right security tools is only part of the equation. Every organisation should also have:
  • A tested cyber incident response plan.
  • Clearly defined crisis management processes.
  • Executive decision-making frameworks.
  • Regular tabletop exercises to validate readiness.
  • The ability to recover quickly and confidently.

Technology helps reduce risk. Preparation reduces impact.

At ASV Platforms, we help organisations not only simplify and strengthen their cyber architecture but also prepare for the moments that matter most. Drawing on real-world experience supporting clients through cyber incidents, we work with organisations to develop practical crisis management and response capabilities that complement their technology investments.

Because true cyber resilience isn't measured by preventing every attack—it's measured by how effectively your organisation responds when one occurs.

AN INSIGHT FROM TOM QUINN, WHO SHARES HIS PERSPECTIVE ON DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION LESSONS

Most digital transformation programs fail for the same reason. Not technology. Not budget. Culture. I've led transformation across retail, higher education, financial services, media, and critical infrastructure. The pattern repeats. Organisations invest heavily in platforms and almost nothing in changing how people work. You end up with a very expensive version of what you already had.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫. Transformation isn't a project. It doesn't end at go-live. I've seen organisations declare success on launch day, disband the program team, and watch capability decay within six months. The work of sustaining change - embedding new behaviours, governing new ways of working, holding the line on backsliding - is where most programs fall short. That's also where most of the value is.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈'𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: define what "done" looks like before you start. Not in technology terms. In business outcome terms. What decisions will be faster? What costs will fall? What risks will be reduced? If you can't answer those questions at the outset, the program will drift. I've seen it happen at scale. The discipline of outcome definition is unglamorous. It's also non-negotiable.

FROM SECURITY TOOL SPRAWL TO CYBER RESILIENCE
Cyber risk is no longer a technology issue that can be managed only inside IT. It is now an operational, regulatory and board-level issue. The real exposure for many organisations is not just the sophistication of the threat; it is the fragmentation of the environment they are trying to protect.

Many businesses have accumulated separate tools for networking, firewalls, VPN, cloud access, monitoring and endpoint control. Each tool may have been sensible at the time, but collectively they create complexity, inconsistent policy, duplicated cost and poor visibility. That matters because cyber resilience depends on the ability to see clearly, respond quickly and apply controls consistently.

The next stage of cyber maturity is therefore not simply buying more security products. In many organisations, the more important step is simplifying the control environment so that security policies are consistent, visibility is clearer, and incidents can be detected and acted on faster. That is why SASE and zero-trust network access are becoming important. When delivered as an integrated managed platform, they can help consolidate network and security controls, reduce operational risk, improve resilience and make scarce security capability more productive
